Carmelo Anthony confronted Kevin Garnett following the New York Knicks' game against the Boston Celtics, in an incident near the Celtics' team bus on Monday night.

The pair almost came to blows and it took NYPD officers, MSG security guards as well as Knicks' coach Mike Woodson to pull the two apart and calm the situation down.

The pair had earlier clashed in the game in the fourth quarter, and although no blows were exchanged at that point both players received a technical.

After the Celtics had beaten the Knicks 102-96 Anthony went down the visiting team's tunnel rather than his usual home team tunnel to confront his opponent, obviously still angered by comments made by Garnett on the court.

Anthony initially started shouting outside the Celtics' locker room waiting for Garnett to appear, but he later moved to the away team's bus to ensure that he got a chance to face him.

When Garnett made his way to the team bus it has been reported he was a little bewildered at what was going on and Anthony's presence there. He was ushered onto the bus by security officials who are attempting to keep the peace.

Garnett seemed to want to play down the incident, commenting after the incident, "No, no man. Just basketball. Just basketball," according to the Washington Post.

However, Amar'e Stoudemire explained that some sharp words had been spoken between the pair, and that this is what got Anthony riled up: "Words are pretty sharp, so when you say certain things, it gets under your skin and it gets you a little angry. And that happens to the best of us. We've got to make sure that we keep our composure and see if we can beat a team like Boston."

In another report Anthony has said of the incident: "There's just certain things that you just don't say to another man."

"Nothing happened for me to be suspended," Anthony added. "I wanted to talk to KG. I think it was something we both needed to get off our chests and see really what the problem was. No altercations, it was just a conversation that we needed to have. That's it. We move on from there."

He further said, "I just wanted to know what was being said, where was all that coming from."

Black Sports Online has suggested that Garnett said a derogatory comment about Anthony's wife, Lala.
