December 15, 2010|4:46 pm

Award-winning country artist Carrie Underwood received her first Golden Globe nomination for "Best Original Song" for "There's a Place for Us," which is featured in "Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."

This is the first time the five-time Grammy winner and two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year penned the lyrics for a motion picture. She co-wrote the song.

Her contenders include a song by Christina Aguilera for the movie "Burlesque" and songs from the movies "Tangled" and "Country Strong."

She stated on her website, “I am absolutely thrilled by this wonderful honor today, it was such an exciting endeavor to have been asked to create music for the film. I grew up with the books and have been a fan of the earlier two movies. I can’t wait for the Golden Globes!”

Underwood, a professed Christian, gained celebrity status after winning the reality television competition "American Idol" during its fourth season. She has gone on to become a multi-platinum recording artist.

The 27-year-old artist is known for songs such as "Inside Your Heaven," "God Bless the Broken Road" and "Jesus Take the Wheel."

She will make her first big-screen debut appearance next year with Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid on the film "Soul Surfer," a true story about a teenage surfer girl who fights back to get on her board after losing an arm in a shark attack.

Underwood is currently wrapping up her "Play On" tour.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader," the third installment based on C.S. Lewis' novels, debuted at the top of the box office this past weekend with $24.5 million.
