Closing arguments begin this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET for the Casey Anthony murder trial. If Anthony, 25, is convicted of first-degree murder of her daughter Caylee, she could be handed the death penalty.

The prosecution claims that Casey Anthony killed her two-year-old daughter by knocking her out with chloroform and wrapping three pieces of duct tape around her nose and mouth.

But the defense argues that the toddler accidentally drowned in the family’s pool on June 16, 2008, and George Anthony, Casey’s father, helped the defendant to dispose of the body.

The following is a summary of the past week before closing arguments begin July 3.

Monday, June 27

Casey Anthony was examined by three psychologists during the weekend reveling that she was competent to stand trial. Judge Belvin Perry said, "Based on the reports that the court has reviewed, the court will find that the defendant is competent to continue to proceed.”

Roy Kronk, who discovered Caylee’s remains in December in a wooded area near the Anthony family’s Orlando home, was brought under questioning. He denied ever touching the girl’s remains. "I never was closer than 30 feet to that bag," Kronk said. Defense called for George Anthony, Casey’s father. George denied ever having an affair with a woman who volunteered during the search for Caylee.

George Anthony broke down into tears when he revealed he made a suicide attempt a month after the remains of his granddaughter were found. Meanwhile, the son of meter reader Roy Kronk, who found the remains of Caylee, testified that his father told him on the phone around November 2008 that he knew where Caylee’s remains were. The defense tried to prove that Kronk deliberately moved Caylee’s remains to the wooded area near the Anthony family home in order to obtain a reward, something Kronk denied.

The defense team rested while prosecution began its rebuttal. They claimed that Anthony’s father, a former police officer, assisted her to cover up the death by making it look like a homicide and dumping the body close to their home. The defense also brought forth Krystal Holloway, the woman he supposedly had an affair with him after his granddaughter disappeared. According to her, he told her about Caylee’s death and how it had been "an accident that snowballed out of control."

Friday, July 1

Cindy Anthony's chloroform internet search claim was challenged. Casey’s mom said it was possible she was home during the time and made searches for chloroform online. But according to documents obtained from her work computer, Cindy was in the office during those date and times.
