Chad Johnson, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was arrested Saturday for allegedly head butting his wife of five weeks, Evelyn Lozada, it has been revealed.

The newlyweds, who were married on July 4, reportedly dined at a restaurant before returning home where an argument ensued. It is believed that Lozada, 37, confronted Johnson, 34, over a receipt for condoms that she had allegedly found, according to Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle.

"It gets pretty heated," Engle told the Sun Sentinel. "By the time they get home here in Davie it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead."

When police arrived on the scene Johnson was arrested and taken into police custody due to Evelyn's laceration and he was reportedly transferred to Broward County Sheriff before midnight.

Lozada was treated for her injuries on the scene by fire-rescue personnel before being transferred to Westside Regional Hospital.

Johnson could remain behind bars until as late as Monday, when he will face a judge in order to seek bail. If released, he will likely be issued a protective order forcing him to stay away from Lozada and avoid all contact until the charges are resolved, which could take several months.

A Dolphins spokesman said: "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the relevant information."

Prior to Saturday Johnson, an 11-year NFL veteran, had only ever been arrested in college for a domestic dispute.

Johnson proposed to Lozada, a reality TV star, on Nov. 16, 2010, just months after meeting her on Twitter.

The couple tied the knot in the Caribbean, and the entire event was filmed for their upcoming reality TV show "Ev and Ocho."

The show, which begins in September, reportedly documents their journey from being engaged to happily married.
