Superstar Channing Tatum has revealed that he and his wife of three years Jenna Dewan are preparing to start a family.

The 32-year-old former model and actor first struck fame with 2006's "Step Up," and has since starred in hit films "Dear John" and "She's The Man," among many others, cementing him amongst Hollywood's A-listers.

"I'm ready; I think she's ready," said Tatum of he and his wife, according to People magazine. "The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we'll see where we go after that."

In the meantime, the actor is gearing up for his next role as an Olympian athlete in the film "Foxcatcher."

"I like to be lean," said the Alabama native. "If I get too bulky I can't move well and I like to move. When I'm not training, I get really round and soft."

It has been a big year for the actor. Tatum starred in three films that grossed over $100 million domestically- "The Vow," "21 Jump Street," and "Magic Mike."

Also, on Wednesday, People magazine announced Channing Tatum at the top of their annual "Sexiest Man Alive" list this year.

When informed of People magazine's honor, Tatum's response was one of modesty and surprise.

"My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" said the actor speaking to People. "I told [my wife] Jenna [Dewan] after we'd been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked."

Tatum married his "Step Up" co-star in 2009.

"She was like, 'What,'" recounted the "21 Jumpstreet" star of his wife's reaction to the coveted title. "She calls me 'The Sexiest Man Alive' now."

On Twitter, Tatum's legions of fans sounded off on People's recognition of the star.

"Channing Tatum: People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive," started Blonde Problem. "I second it & am sure get unanimous consent from anyone that's seen Magic Mike."

Kyera posted, "Channing Tatum named People's sexiest man alive, I can agree with that one."

Although Tatum topped People's list, actors Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, and Ben Affleck also were named 2012's Sexiest Men, among others.

Tatum joins past victors of People's "Sexiest Man Alive" title including Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and last year's winner Bradley Cooper.

Being named 2012's Sexiest Man Alive is not the only honor Tatum has received this week. The actor if featured in GQ as the magazine's Movie Star of the Year as well.

"So proud of my love, he's GQ's man of the year, so deserved," Tatum's wife posted to Twitter on Tuesday.
