'Charlie's Angels' Reboot News: Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o to Star

"Charlie's Angels" is the next franchise up for reboot treatment with Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o being considered to play two-thirds of the iconic trio.

This is according to Variety, which added that Sony is in the middle of the casting process for the project as the search for the third angel to complete the group continues.

Stewart's most recent film work are indie. Her performances in "Still Alice," "Cafe Society," "Clouds of Sils Maria," "Welcome to the Rileys" and "Personal Shopper" are highly praised and have won her major Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards. The "Charlie's Angels" reboot will be the first major studio tentpole she will headline since 2010's "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Nyong'o, on the other hand, is known for her work in "12 Years a Slave" in which she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2013.

She is currently part of the "Star Wars" franchise as Maz Kanata and will soon be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the upcoming film "Black Panther."

Elizabeth Banks, who recently helmed "Pitch Perfect 2," is attached to direct and produce the "Charlie's Angels" reboot, which is slated to hit the cinemas in summer of 2019. Elizabeth Cantillon and Max Handelman will also serve as producers.

"Charlie's Angels" follows the exploits of a group of three women who work in a private detective agency in Los Angeles by an unseen millionaire.

Its earliest form was a television show by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts that ran from 1976 to 1981. It starred Farrah Fawcett, Kate Majors and Jaclyn Smith.

The crime drama was then adapted for the big screen in 2000 by director McG and writers Ryan Rowe, Ed Solomon and John August.

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu played the titular characters in the blockbuster film, which earned $264.1 million with a sequel titled "Full Throttle" released three years later.

The "Charlie's Angels" movies featured John Forsythe the original voice of Charlie from the television series and starred the likes of Sam Rockwell, Kelly Lynch, Crispin Glover, Tim Curry, Matt LeBlanc and Luke Wilson among many others.
