'Chicago PD' Season 5 Spoilers: Burgess Breaks Protocol for a Friend

Burgess (Marina Squerciati) will get in trouble with her superiors in the upcoming season of "Chicago P.D."

According to CarterMatt, one of the new episodes in season 5 is about Burgess breaking protocol to help a friend in need. When a Muslim patrol officer, Frank Toma (guest star Ben Youcef), is accused of masterminding an explosion during a Chicago street festival, Burgess will reportedly do her best to prove that he is innocent. She and Toma became good friends when she helped in his training, and she knew he would not do something as destructive as setting off a bomb. Burgess' belief will put her in the bad side of the higher-ups, and even her colleagues in the Intelligence Unit will question her motives.

Meanwhile, it was previously teased that Burgess' new partner was going to be Antonio (Jon Seda). He is set to rejoin the unit after a brief stint at the State Attorney's office. Viewers are looking forward to seeing how Antonio's return will affect the dynamics of the squad. More specifically, it will be interesting to watch how he and Voight (Jason Beghe) will adjust to working side by side again.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Seda said that there would still be some tension, but Voight and his character have always had respect for each other.

"They're like brothers. They're not going to agree all the time, but I think that's something also that's going to be reflected in season five; they're going to have a little more of that tension that was there between Voight and Antonio, but it's going to be different now because now it's tension after five years of working with each other. It's wanting the best for each other but sometimes, the hardest person to get to understand what's the best way is that person that is so close to you," Seda said.

"Chicago P.D." season 5 will air on Sept. 27, Wednesday, at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
