Chris Brown Released From Jail After Turning Self in Over Hit-and-Run

Chris Brown was released from a California jail Monday shortly after turning himself in as part of his ongoing hit-and-run case.

The Grammy award-winning singer, 24, was charged with criminal hit-and-run in June stemming from an incident that occurred in May and subsequently he was ordered to turn himself in to authorities by August 6. Brown reportedly went to Van Nuys jail at 2pm where he spent approximately 45 minutes before being released on his own recognizance, according to TMZ.com.

Brown's probation was revoked in recent weeks after the L.A. District Attorney claimed the singer violated his probation following a car accident involving a model named Olga Gure-Kovalenko. She accused Brown of hitting her car in Los Angeles on May 21 and contrary to the singer's claims she maintains that he did not follow proper procedure after the minor collision occurred.

Gure-Kovalenko, who allegedly won Miss Russian L.A. 2013, was photographed exchanging information with Brown and his on-and-off girlfriend Karrueche Tran after the accident however she claimed he did not hand over the correct information. Investigators support Gure-Kovalenko's claims about Brown handing over invalid license and insurance information.

"[Karrueche] gave me her driver's license [but] she wasn't driving...they gave me some [expired] piece of paper which was insurance for Lamborghini...and this car wasn't Lamborghini...I did get expired insurance," Gure-Kovalenko told TMZ.com reiterating "I never got any driver's license off him."

Brown is expected to appear in court for a case hearing on August 15 however a probation violation hearing date has reportedly not yet been set.

Brown was on probation stemming from his 2009 assault case involving ex-girlfriend Rihanna and the recent revoke could mean jail time. If a court finds him in breach due to the criminal hit-and-run charges, he could be sentenced to a maximum of four years in prison, according to the New York Daily News.

"It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous," Brown tweeted in response to the reports of charges.

"I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene," he continued adding "She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures."
