Chris Pine in Talks to Play Male Lead in 'Wonder Woman'?

Reports have emerged Chris Pine is in negotiations to co-star opposite Gal Gadot as the male lead in "Wonder Woman."

"Star Trek" actor, Chris Pine is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. to co-star in the upcoming superhero film, "Wonder Woman."

The film has been the subject of much discussion ranging from fans' opinion of "Fast and Furious" actress Gadot being physically unsuited to the role of warrior Amazon, to the lack of a male lead.

With the possibility of Pine's joining the cast, Warner Bros. may have found a male co-star for the female-fronted superhero film.

According to Hollywood Reporter, although Warner Bros. has not released any official statement to the fact, if negotiations are successful, Pine would take on the role of Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman's alter ego, Diana Prince.

In the DC Comics tradition, Trevor is a U.S. Navy intelligence officer whose plane crash lands on a remote island which turns out to be the home of the warrior Amazons. Diana nurses him back to health and in the process falls in love with him, going as far as following him when he returns to civilization.

Taking on the pseudonym Diana Prince, she becomes his co-worker and fights crime together with him.

"Wonder Woman" is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017, and will be directed by Patty Jenkins who replaced Michelle MacLaren earlier in the year, based on a script written by Jason Fuchs, with Charles Roven executive producing under DC Comics' Atlas Entertainment, together with producer Zack Snyder.

Pine, 34, has starred as Captain James Kirk in the two Star Trek films, runaway train action film, "Unstoppable," "Horrible Bosses 2," and "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." He also played Prince Charming opposite Anna Kendrick's Cinderella in "Into the Woods."

He will soon be appearing in "The Finest Hours," a Coast Guard drama set for next year, and is geared to start working on "Star Trek 3."
