Christian Coalition Divided in Support for Tax Plan

Last week in Huntsville, Birminham, Montgomery, and Mobile in the state of Alabama, Roberta Combs, the president of the Christian Coalition of America, rallied for support for Gov. Bob Riley’s $1.2 billion tax plan.

“I am here... to announce that the Christian Coalition of America supports Gov. Bob Riley’s ‘Plan for Progress’ and to urge our members, and people of faith all across Alabama, to work with us in support of this bold and courageous initiative,” Combs said during a news release.

“The Christian Coalition of America supports Gov. Riley’s plan for tax reform because it is clearly and unquestionably designed to help the least among us, and asks those who are most able to pay their share. At the same time, the governor’s proposal ensures the protection of important family programs and services that face imminent risk of significant funding cuts. We believe the governor’s proposal is both visionary and courageous,” said Combs.

While the national organization had been rallying support for the governor’s tax plan, its branch coalition in Alabama has been against it.

“We believe it is our duty and our responsibility to be involved in this crucial effort from this day forward. We pledge to invest our time and energy to help Alabama’s courageous Christian governor achieve this bold and rightful mission.” Answered Combs.

Combs added that her organization will share their supportive message with the Christian Coalition members of Alabama with under one month left till the plan will be placed to a vote in the state.

Although the national organization had expressed confidence and support for the governor’s upcoming tax plan, the question then turns to whether the Christian Coalition members of Alabama would receive the message well.
