Christian mobilizing group Restore America is determined to register 3 million evangelicals by November 2012 so that they can be “light and salt” at the ballot box.

Restore America Director David Crowe said the organization’s effort called the America2012 Project is not about supporting one candidate or party over the other. Rather, he told The Christian Post, the campaign is about encouraging Christians to do what he believes is their Christian duty.

As the salt of the world, Crowe said, “We’re the ones that preserve the things that are right and good.”

If Christians are not voting, he said, they are neglecting their biblical duty.

According to the nonprofit’s statistics, many Christians have been neglecting their duty in the past six years.

According to the group, 10 million American Christians did not register to vote in the 2006 election. Another 20 million who were registered to vote did not vote.

In 2008, Crowe said, “You have about 10 to 12 million who were not registered and did not vote, obviously. You have another 10 to 12 million who are registered to vote but did not vote. So there is about 20 million who are eligible to vote – we’re talking about those 18 and over and have not lost their voting rights.”

Restore America isn't the only group trying to mobilize Christians. United in Purpose is also making efforts to register more Christian conservatives – 5 million of them for the upcoming election and 40 million evangelicals over the next decade.

Crowe explained one possible reason some believers are not heading to the ballot box. “There are over a 150 denominations in this nation. Many of those who do not vote are so conservative they believe in separation,” he said.

In other words, these Christians believe the biblical passage that calls them to be in the world but not of the world so strongly that they see voting as a worldly activity that is to be avoided.

“They see politics as being corrupt and it doesn’t matter if they vote,” he explained.

Others, he said, have withdrawn their attentions from the nation’s politics because they believe it is the end times.

“What they are doing when they do that is they are drawing a conclusion that is not biblical,” he contended.

But as the light of the world, Christians should never withdraw their godly witness, he stressed.

Crowe has joined forces with Web design firm Trinet Internet Solutions, Inc. in order to reach non-voting Christians through social networking sites, emails and text messages.
