Christian Surfers to Hold Contest

Christian Surfers Daytona Beach will be holding its 2nd annual Spring Fling Surf Contest on May 22-23 at Tom Renick Park in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Tom Renick Park is located next to an old pier so any swell is usually magnified, said Christian Surfer member and competitor Sam Jordan.

Organizers of the event have planned the contest also as a big out reach event and have promoted it through local radio and newspaper adverstising.

Divisions include girls all ages and longboard; male and female open short board; boys 12 and younger; juniors 13--17; men 18--29; juniors longboard 17 and younger; men's longboard 18--29 and masters longboard 30 and older.

Entry forms have been availabe at Maui Nix, Salty Dog and Mad Dog surf shops scince April 19. The entry fee is $20 for the first division and $5 for each additional division. Trophies will be given to all top finishers Proceeds from the surf contest will be used for mission trips and community outreach.

Free barbecue will be served to competitors. Attendees can participate in a raffle giveway that has two custom surfboards as prizes. T-shirts will also be available for the event.

Christian Surfers is an international ministry that started in the 1980s with chapters in over 20 countries worldwide in such places as the United States, Brazil, Mexico, France, South Africa, Australia, and Spain. The international website is written in five languages: English, French, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese.

The Daytona Beach chapter offers Bible studies at 7 p.m. each Tuesday at First United Methodist Church.

Short mission trips and outreach opportunities are also available through the ministry.
