On behalf of the World Evangelical Alliance and our global family of 420 million Christians, I bring you warm Christmas greetings.
As we celebrate the coming of our Lord to earth 2000 years ago we are reminded that Jesus, God's Son is Emmanuel – God with us. What a wonderful truth this name reveals.
In the midst of a world that is often filled with suffering, conflict, and heartache, as followers of Christ we have the hope that He, the living Son of God is with us. In spite of our often failings, through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit, God is alive and empowering His people around the world to be instruments of love and compassion.
As I have travelled the world this year on behalf of our global family, I have seen God's presence in lives of women and men living out their faith in:
* Slums and barrios of great urban centres
* Boardrooms of major international corporations
* Parliaments and supreme courts of large and small nations
* Cancer clinics and hospice centres
* Refugee and IDP camps
* Disaster-stricken communities
* World-class universities
* Anti-human trafficking rescue programs
* Church-based projects for AIDS orphans and widows
* Feeding programs for women and children at risk
* Creation care projects
* Reconciliation and peace-building initiatives.
The reality of the first Christmas, God is with us, continues today in every nation of the world.
As a follower of Jesus, no matter what circumstances you find yourself in, I want to remind that Jesus is with you. I encourage you to live in the light of this truth. Or if you are still on your journey to discover a relationship with the God of history, I warmly invite to put your faith in Jesus Christ, the one who is called Emmanuel.
As we enter this New Year, it is my prayer that followers of Jesus will be "Good News" people in a world that is often filled with bad news. That Christians will be seen as grace-filled, compassionate individuals who are living out the hope of the Gospel and seeking justice for all.
May you experience the blessings of God for this season and the New Year.
With much joy in Christ,
Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe
