Chromebooks Among Amazon's Top 10 Laptop Bestsellers, A Success Indication?

It has been one month since Google started shipping its Chromebook to online retailers, such as Amazon and BestBuy. With that in mind, we now ask: how has it appealed to consumers so far?

Just two days after it launched on online retailers, Google seemed to be happy with Chromebook sales and released the following statement to InformationWeek: "We've been very pleased with the response to the Chromebook subscription model since we launched. We officially opened for business two days ago and there are businesses and schools signing order forms as we speak."

Although Google has yet to reveal the official number of Chromebooks sold so far, there is reason to believe that it hasn't been doing badly.

Just two weeks after it was open for sale, the Samsung Series 5 3G Chromebook was positioned as Amazon's 3rd best-selling laptop behind Apple's MacBook Pro, and Toshiba's Satellite in first place.

Today, four weeks after its debut, the Acer Chromebook is positioned at number four on the same best- sellers list and is accompanied by two other Chromebooks that make the top 10 list. That's three in the top ten list for Google, whose web and cloud computing-based laptop is apparently putting up a fight against Apple who has four of its own laptops in the top ten with the MacBook Pro MC700LL/A currently taking number one spot.

Although reviews for the Chromebook from various tech sites such as InfoWorld and PCWorld have claimed that the device's dependence on an internet connection is an unsatisfying limit to its usage, we are still unsure about just how well the sales fared among consumers.

Perhaps, Google may disclose the figures for such topic in its Q2 Earnings Webcast today due to start at 4:30 PM ET.
