The people of Slovakia have been recently voting largely in favor of naming a new pedestrian and cycling bridge near their capital after American film and TV star Chuck Norris.
While residents seem determined to name the bridge after the American icon, the final decision will be determined by a regional assembly.
Regional governor Pavol Freso told the Guardian that the assembly will follow the wishes of the people when naming the bridge basing the decision on which choice gets the most votes.
"The same way as we have so far been building [the bridge] in full sight of the public, we will seek that the name is accepted by the public as well," Freso said.
Possibly the most abstract name for the bridge, "Chuck Norris" has already received well over one thousand votes which makes it the top choice of residents in the area so far.
The other names that have been supported include "Maria Theresa," the name of the former Austro-Hungarian empress, and "the Devinska Cycling Bridge," named after the nearest city, Devinska.
Norris, who is a martial arts expert, is known for playing the hero while portraying tough guy characters in timeless movies such as Lone Wolf McQuade, Missing in Action, The Delta Force and Three Ninjas.
The actor's work has become a popular source of idolization and fun among Slovaks. Norris is a constant mainstay for local jokes about macho strength and invincibility, according to the daily Mail.
Norris has become a symbol of infallibility and of the utmost strength for young boys to admire. He is also widely known for his television roles in various shows like "Walker, Texas Ranger."
The voting for naming the bridge will run until April.
The most recent count has 1,157 votes in favor of Norris which is 74 percent of the total votes cast. The current runner up is "Maria Theresa Bridge" with eight percent, according to the International Business Times.
