Classic Nick toons in talks of being revived by Nickelodeon

For the 90s kids, they would remember how Nickelodeon dominated over their childhood TV time. It isn't a wonder that many adults today still long to see these animated characters on television and refuse to accept that cartoons today could even compare.

However, Variety delivers the good news that Nickelodeon is apparently looking into reviving 90s cartoon hits such as "Hey Arnold," "Rugrats," "The Ren and Stimpy Show," and so many others. The Viacom-owned studio has realized the growing demand to see these old programs back.

President of content and development at Nickelodeon Russell Hicks shared, "We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way."

Although hope has been renewed, fans shouldn't expect a full-blown rebooted animated series or even a mini-series, as the network is seemingly looking to test the waters first by releasing a movie or a special. It was also said that it would not be the main focus of the network's development efforts.

The decision to bring back these animated series was mainly due to the observation that the generation that religiously followed these shows before now has their own children. Hicks further said that, "We are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they've told us multiple times they want to have brought back." It would makes sense that these parents would want their children to have the same viewing experience they had as kids.

Another great appeal — if Nickelodeon does decide to bring these shows back — would be the way viewers can bond over the shows since they are both relatable in terms of nostalgia for the adults and story-wise for the kids. There have been suggestions on how each show can be adapted to modern times, including taking on the topic of bullying for cartoons like "Doug" to presentation of current economic situations in the series Hey Arnold!
