Cleveland Browns to Make One More Run at Jimmy Garoppolo

It seems that the trade rumors linking New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the Cleveland Browns is still very much alive.

Citing a league source, ESPN's Tony Grossi said the Browns "would make another run" at the quarterback at the owners meeting next week.

"There, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick could interact in person — rather than via telephone — with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and chief deal-maker Sashi Brown, the club's executive vice president of football operations," Grossi said in his report.

"The seeds of trades often are sown in the fertile grounds of the league meetings. If a trade is still viable — even the optimists believe it is a long shot — the source said it's possible it may not be consummated until closer to the April 27 draft," he continued.

Pundits like ESPN's Adam Schefter and The MMQB's Peter King have already said the Patriots would not trade Garoppolo this offseason, but others have suggested that they might be willing to move him if the price was right. Some have even noted that a trade was inevitable.

The Browns have been stockpiling assets and now is the perfect time to pry Garoppolo away from the Patriots. Of course, this does not mean that the Browns are simply going to throw away draft picks in order to acquire the quarterback. They have a limit.

Meanwhile, Boston Herald's Jeff Howe said the Patriots will listen to offers, but he believes that they will decide to keep him to serve as Tom Brady's backup for another season. Don't forget that Brady is already 39 (40 in August) and he can't play on forever.

Right now, the Browns currently have three quarterbacks on their roster: Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and Brock Osweiler. They can also select a quarterback in the draft, so they still have other options if they fail to acquire Garoppolo.
