Cleveland Cavaliers Trade News 2015: Cavs Sign Jared Cunningham

In a bid to improve their bench for the coming NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly agreed to give free agent Jared Cunningham a new deal. Cunningham was drafted in 2012 by the Cavaliers as the 24th overall pick.

Cunnigham has gone on to play for four different teams, with his first year with the Dallas Mavericks – where he played eight games and averaged only 2.0 points per game. He would go on and play for the Atlanta Hawks and the Sacramento Kings in the next season, before being moved to the Los Angeles Clippers last season where he played the most games in a team in his career. In 19 games with the Clippers, he averaged 1.8 points per game and averaged under five minutes of playing time a night.

Cunningham has impressed in the summer league and, as a result, was given a chance to fight for a spot in the Cavaliers squad in the coming season. Playing with the Utah Jazz in the summer league, Cunningham scored 10 points per game in eight matches.

The Cavs are still hoping to complete their roster signings with Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith still undecided whether to re-sign with the Cavaliers.

Cleveland fell short of winning the NBA Finals last year as they went against the Golden State Warriors. LeBron James had a great season but injuries to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love proved to be too much for the Cavs to overcome.

Cunningham's addition may not give the team too much depth but the shooting guard can become a key role player for the squad who can play significant minutes to help the other stars catch a breather.

Hoping to land a more stable job in the league, Cunningham should find his way up the ladder in the Cavs as they are again a title contender in the coming season.
