There is a new celebrity cat it town. His name is Colonel Meow and unlike some other famous cats, this one comes with a special title as a new Guinness World Record holder.
Guinness World Record's has announced that Colonel Meow is an official record breaker. Running for the title of "Cat with the Longest Fur" the Himalayan-Persian mix measured in at an impressive nine inches of fluff. His feat as first, an Internet celebrity, and now, as a world record holder, is a big step up from his humble beginnings.
Colonel Meow began as a rescue cat who was abandoned on the side of a road and picked up off the streets. He was taken in by the Himalayan and Persian Society, where eventually he met with his adoptive parents, Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario. Two years after his rescue, his parents say they are proud pet owners.
"We already knew that he was the best cat in the world, but to be recognized in the Guinness World Records book takes it to the next level," Avey said in an interview with Guinness.
There is one drawback however, of being the pet owners of the longest haired cat in the world.
"Literally everything in the house has hair on it, including us! I feel like I'm always vacuuming!" Avey shared.
On his way to the big times, Colonel Meow now has his own Facebook, Twitter, and webpage. Move over Grumpy Cat, there is a new cat in town.
"Colonel Meow is being groomed for stardom, and I know the furry feline will be a big hit with readers," Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, said. "He's an incredible creature, and he'll undoubtedly inspire people all around to the world to whip out their rulers and start measuring their own cat's fur."
