Colorado Avalanche NHL Trade Rumors: Avalanche GM Sakic Looks for Deals That Can Help His Team in the Future

It's no secret that the Colorado Avalanche are the biggest sellers right now in the National Hockey League (NHL) trade market. And if two dozen scouts representing 17 NHL teams suddenly show up at one of their games, something must be up. Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic has been busy talking with rival general managers in the past few weeks, but the only deal he made so far this season is a trade sending Cody McLeod to Nashville Predators for Felix Girard. What will he do next?

In an interview with the Denver Post, Sakic said that they would listen to offers, but he continued to play coy about his plans heading into the trade deadline.

"I'm not looking to do something big. If something happens, I will listen to get exactly what we want to help the team in the future, and we'll certainly listen and think about it. But if not, I'm continuing to go into the summer and see how we can improve in the summer. There's no real deadline that way. But we'll look at all options to get better," he stated during the interview.

He admitted that they were thinking about trading Matt Duchene and Gabe Landeskog, but he said he wasn't the one who started the rumors to drum up interest in the two.

Sakic also pointed out that he would not conduct a trade just for the sake of making a move, so there's a chance that the Avalanche might just stay put if they don't get an offer that makes sense for them long term.

It's clear that Sakic isn't just going to give away his players in random trades and he's going to look for deals that can impact the team's future. He has mentioned that Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Tyson Jost are untouchable, according to the Denver Post. But everyone else seems to be fair game, so expect a lot of movement before the trade deadline.
