Hunter Smith, punter for the Indianapolis Colts, just won a Super Bowl this past Sunday in Florida, but has now moved in a new direction - signing a record contract with Christian label INO Records.

The football player’s group, Connersvine, is an acoustic duo consisting of Smith and Chris Wilson, who both lead worship at the Every Nation Church in Indianapolis.

"Winning the Super Bowl has been one of the highlights of my life and career. It is completely humbling that God has allowed me to not only be a part of an amazing football team, but also is giving me the chance to pursue His calling in music," said Smith in Jesus Freak Hideout, a Christian music resource website and ministry. "I feel just as strong of a call to worship leading and ministering through music as I do in football."

Because of time constraints, Connersvine will immediately go to the record studio during the kicker’s off-season. They will begin laying down tracks on Wednesday under producer Pete Kipley, who has produced previous Christian superstars including The Afters, MercyMe, and Rebecca St. James.

What began as a young adult ministry on the south side of Indianapolis, the duo began to write professionally feeling that they were called to sing.

The band describes their sound as acoustic-driven rock that displays worshipful melodies and passionate vocals. Their focus is not simply on writing music as artists, but to have a larger impact by creating songs that can be used for praise in churches.

Smith has just finished his eighth season as punter for the Colts. He was picked up by the team following his college days at Notre Dame. He is also the holder for place kicker Adam Vinatieri, generally considered the best clutch kicker in the history of the National Football League.

Smith hopes to use his platform as a professional athlete to reach many people with the gospel.

No release date has yet been announced for the album.
