Community Youth Helps Flood Victims Across the Shaanxi Province

China – The Christian Reformed World Relief Committee responded to the heavy flooding that demolished thousands of homes in China’s Shaanxi Province.

According to Chinese media reports, the series of heavy read and flood this summer affected more than two million people across Northwest China. Immediately after the crises struck, the CRWRF offered physical and spiritual assistance to the victims.

Wybe Bylsma, one of CRWRC’s volunteers, said that part of the objective was to involve local young people by encouraging them to volunteer. Students soon gathered and willingly participated by assembling and distributing basic items of need. The teams provided 180 families each with a blanket, mosquito net, and a bed mat. These were commonly used and very practical household items. In addition, the teams also left behind 500 kg of rice.
