A prominent advocate for Coptic Christians has condemned the attack on Copts leaving the Virgin Mary Church in Warraq, Giza, following a wedding last week.

The incident left four Copts dead, including a child, and 18 wounded, including three Muslims.

Maspero Youth Union (MYU) called for a protest in front of the Egyptian cabinet to call on the government to try the Minister of the Interior for what they say is his involvement in the repeated attacks on Christian citizens.

MYU's statement released Monday also demanded prosecution of the local security leaders for failing to do their duty in protecting the Virgin Mary Church in Waraq.

It also called for removing all of the Ministry of Interior's leaders associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. They also demanded developing a plan to secure churches and compensate the families of the victims.

The union blamed the government and its president, Dr. Hazem el-Beblawi, for the attacks that have occurred against Copts since the dispersal of the pro-Morsi sit-ins on August 14.

The Copts without Borders Movement issued a statement Monday stressing that the armed attack on the Virgin Mary Church in Warraq was an episode in the systematic terror and violence faced by Christians since the overthrow of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The movement demanded the government resign immediately, as "it has proven it's incapable of doing the simplest duties, which are to promote security and protect the lives of innocent people."

"The current government is a key partner in all crimes of violence against Copts, and moral responsibility obliges it to resign," the statement added.

The statement went on to say that security services are doing the best they can to provide protection for the lives of current and former ministers and government officials, but little protection for Copts against terrorist acts targeting Christians and their houses of worship.
