Cortana On Android, iOS News: Intelligent Personal Assistant Now on Skype

It has just been announced that Microsoft's intelligent assistant, Cortana, is coming into the popular telecommunications application, Skype.

Conversations are a vital part of life, and more often than not, these are done over the internet, with the use of messaging applications, just like Skype. But now, the app that has millions of users across the globe has just become a lot smarter.

In a blog post, Skype revealed that with Cortana's in-context assistance, it will be easier for the application users to keep their conversations flowing as the feature has the ability to suggest useful information based on the chat, just like movie reviews, restaurant recommendations, and more.

Another thing that will make Cortana useful in Skype is its ability to suggest smart replies, allowing users to respond to messages quickly and easily, even without having to type anything.

Cortana will also become an automatic contact in Skype, which will enable users to engage in one-on-one conversations with the assistant, who can answer a plethora of questions, check the user's flight status, give updates on the weather, provide stock quotes, set reminders, and more. With these features, users can get access to information without having to leave the application.

The integration of Cortana into Skype was announced over a year and a half ago, according to The Verge, which stated in a report that the reason behind the delay is unclear, considering that the said implementation is vastly similar to what Facebook and Google have done before with their own versions of intelligent assistants.

Cortana will be available on both iOS and Android systems. However, it will not be immediately widely accessible as Microsoft said that the new feature will be gradually released starting in the U.S.

It also remains unclear as of now if it will be available in different languages. Skype users are encouraged to wait for more updates regarding the Cortana integration.
