The Cowboys are joint top of the NFC East in a three way tie with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, with all three teams on 8-6.

Not many would have given the Cowboys hope to be in this position about two months ago when they were 3-5, but a run that has seen them win five of their last six games has propelled them to the verge of the playoffs.

However, there is still much work to be done, and the Saints are not likely to give the Cowboys any favors today. Although the Saints are just 6-8 and are all but out of the playoff reckonings they are coming into this game having dismantled Tampa Bay, posting 41 points last week.

With the Cowboys featuring a damaged defense, some pundits are wondering whether the Dallas defense will be able to cope with a suddenly rampant Saints offense. The Saints will be cursing a run of games that saw them play the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants three weeks in a row as the season came to its finale. That run of three consecutive losses has ultimately cost the Saints their playoff spot, but the team showed they are still kicking last week with their 41-0 victory.

For the Cowboys, they must be weary of the pass, as the Saints rank second in the NFL for pass yards per game (298.1 yards). The Saints are one of the most offensively efficient sides in the league, ranking fourth in points per game (27.8) and third for overall yards per game (397.9).

The Cowboys will have to do something about Saints' quarterback Drew Brees, who has 4,335 yards for an impressive 36 touchdowns this season so far. The Cowboys' secondary will have to cope with Marques Colston and Lance Moore, who have connected well with Brees all season long.

A slip up today for the Cowboys would nullify a lot of their hard work over recent weeks to get into their newly found commanding position.
