CP World Report: Barack Obama, Gambia, Pakistan Blasphemy, City Harvest Church

August 24, 2012|11:45 am

An elected county judge in Texas has issued an alarming warning. It's raising eyebrows: that the nation could descend into civil war if President Barack Obama is re-elected. County judge Tom Head is now calling for a trained, well-equipped force to battle UN troops he says Obama would bring in. The judge was referring to unexplained "executive orders" and other documents that Obama has filed. Head believes that Obama will attempt to give the sovereignty of the United States away to the United Nations…resulting in civil war.

Gambian president Yahya Jammeh says all 44 people on death row will be executed by mid-September. The last time an inmate was executed in the tiny West African nation was 30 years ago. The motivation for the decision--which has sparked condemnation from Human Rights groups globally—is unclear. Gambia imposes capital punishment for various crimes, including murder and treason, the latter commonly used to stifle dissent in some African nations.

International concern is growing over an 11-year-old Christian girl….in police custody after she was arrested a week ago under Pakistan's blasphemy laws--for allegedly burning pages of the Quran .
De-faming Islam is illegal in Pakistan and potentially punishable by death. Reza Sayah visited the girl's neighborhood where Christians are uneasy about a potential backlash.

City Harvest Church, one of the largest mega-churches in Asia—with a 30 thousand membership--has been warned by government and police officials not to collect donations from worshipers …to pay for legal fees related to the founder's corruption case. Pastor Kong Hee's was arrested in June along with his deputy and three other ministry members for allegedly misusing $18 million in church funds. Officials claim the minister used the money to help launch his wife's music career. The megachurch has been left deep in a controversy with many questioning the way it conducts business and how it handles money gathered from the faithful.

24 year old Aimee Copeland , who captured the world's attention when she was stricken with a flesh eating bacteria… has spent her first night back home . Aimee's family home ,outside Atlanta, was renovated while she was gone. The donated work includes access ramps...a new bathroom...a fitness room and an elevator. The college student's hands, leg and foot were amputated three months ago.
Her father Andy has been vocal about his Christian faith and how it got his whole family through the ordeal, including Aimee. He calls Amiee's story…… one of survival , love, hope and faith.

A 19th-century painting was ruined after an elderly Spanish woman tried to restore it without permission. Authorities hope to undo the damage caused by the well-intentioned woman on the 120-year-old painting. The painting depicted Christ crowned with thorns and has graced the walls of a Madrid Church. But over the last 18 months, it started to flake. A woman in her 80s was so upset, she took it upon herself to restore the artwork to its former glory, but with devastating results. Now the original face has been almost completely painted over with amateur brushstrokes, and reports say….it looks like an ape, rather than the son of God.
