The tragedy in Connecticut hits painfully close to home for families scarred by other mass shootings.

Some of them went to Washington to help push for new gun laws.

Demand for a Utah company's bulletproof backpacks skyrocketed in the aftermath of the Connecticut elementary school shooting. The backpacks are lined with bullet-stopping fabric.

Authorities have released surveillance video of a knife wielding man attacking school children in China. It happened on that ominous day, last Friday. Police say 23 children and an 85-year-old man were stabbed. Thankfully, no one died. The suspect was eventually apprehended by authorities and now faces charges for jeopardizing public security.

A Russian Soyuz rocket has launched into history with the first Canadian commander on the International Space Station. Hadfield and two others will spend five months at the International Space Station, joining several other astronauts to conduct various tests and science experiments. Hadfield is acting as the commander during the latter part of the mission. Hadfield said, "I'm not doing this for admiration. This is something that I thought was going to challenge me to the limits of my ability so I would find the greatest personal satisfaction in it."

Paula Broadwell, the ex-mistress of former CIA Director David Petraeus, will reportedly not face cyberstalking charges over her alleged stalking of a rumored love rival. Broadwell, who was accused of harassing Tampa socialite Jill Kelley via email, is said to be relieved that the matter has been resolved.

The Pope has spoken out against gay marriage this week affirming the need for society to "acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman." The Pope said attempts to make it juridicially equivalent to radically different types of union, actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society.
