Ottawa has stepped in and averted an Air Canada strike that was set for Monday if they had not accepted a new contract. The airline had issued to its pilots what it called "its best, last and final offer". The labor strife would have caused havoc during the key march break travel season.

Six world powers are calling on Iran to engage in serious discussions about its nuclear program; and to open all of its nuclear facilities to inspectors. Iranian media reports are saying Iran's supreme leader wants to resolve the dispute peacefully, and said he's happy Obama is not thinking war. But Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticized Obama's threat to impose more sanctions on Iran.

As the death toll piles up in Syria, a Syrian government minister has become the first high ranking civilian official to defect from the Assad regime. Deputy oil minister Abdo Hussam el-Din announced his resignation and said he was going over to the opposition. Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who is the special joint envoy to Syria for the U.N. and the Arab League, will travel to Syria for talks on Saturday.

A "Tweet for Youcef" campaign and congressional petition that was launched by the American Center for Law and Justice has now reached 1.1 million Twitter users per day in 89 percent of the world's nations. Thousands of organizations globally celebrated International Women's Day yesterday. The theme this year: Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures. Among the groups celebrating was Women of Vision, a volunteer ministry who uses faith and economic development to transform the lives of women and girls globally. It was developed 20 years ago by a group of women who became inspired following ministry trips to Guatemala and Kenya.

Radiation from two massive solar flares emitted from the sun began hitting Earth's atmosphere this week. The flares bring a strong solar radiation storm which is capable of disrupting satellite operations and high-frequency radio transmissions.
