The high profile and emotional Canadian murder trial of 8 year old Tori Stafford is over. Michael Rafferty has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. He was convicted of first-degree murder, in the kidnapping and sexual assault causing bodily harm of the child. Superior Court Judge Thomas Heeney called Rafferty a monster. Rafferty will join Terri-Lynne McClintic, his ex-lover and partner in the gruesome crime, in being sentenced to life in prison. She pleaded guilty two years ago to first-degree murder, admitting she lured Tori away, with the promise of seeing a dog and delivered the child to Rafferty for repeated sexual assaults.

A Florida mother shot her four children to death, then turned the gun on herself at her home in Port St. John. Police say there was no apparent motive. She was identified as 33 year old Tanya Thomas. Her children ranged in age from 12 to 17.

Nine European warships patrolling off Somalia have carried out their first anti-pirate air attack on mainland Somalia. The campaign against the multi-million-dollar piracy racket—that has been damaging international trade, is expected to intensify. No casualties were reported on this attack

The C-E-O and chairman of JPMorgan faced the music with shareholders yesterday, about that two-billion-dollar trading loss. One trader in London had placed large, insurance-like bets called credit default swaps; and they went sour. This was reportedly the kind of betting against the market that led to the economic meltdown in 2008. Republican Senator Bob Corker from Tennessee is the first lawmaker to call for a hearing on the issue.

This comes as regulators are working to implement the Volcker Rule. It's part of the Wall Street reform law passed after the 0-8 financial crisis. It aims to ban risky trading by banks for their own profit . JPMorgan C-E-O Jamie Dimon maintains that the trades did not violate the Volcker Rule.

An Independent panel is being set up to review Wycliffe and S.I.L. International Bible translations. The groups have faced criticism over their translations of biblical terms relating to God the Father and Jesus the Son of God for editions intended for use within Islamic contexts. The panel will review standards of translation within the two organisations, which have agreed to abide by all the recommendations.

Christian Filipino boxer and congressman Manny Pacquiao has disagreed with President Barack Obama's support of redefining marriage . He joins Black pastors across the country who dwelt on Obama's stance during worship services last Sunday. Pacquiao insists people should always put God's word first. In an interview with the National Conservative Examiner while training in Los Angeles, the boxer quoted scripture. He is a Roman Catholic who has recently talked about ending his fighting career to focus on his religious beliefs.
