Criminal Minds Season 10 Spoilers, Casting Rumors: Jennifer Love Hewitt Joins BAU as Agent Kate Callahan

The tenth season of CBS hit American police-procedural TV show "Criminal Minds" is now slated to release its premiere episode in the coming months. Fans of the famous Behavioral Analysis Unit didn't like the departure of Alex Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn) in the season 9 finale, but they will be happy to know that Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the team.

Singer and actresss Jennifer Love Hewitt will join the crew as a series regular. The 35-year-old Billboard chart topper will be playing the character of Kate Callahan, a former FBI agent hired by BAU.

TV Guide's Mega Buzz segment revealed some teasers on what to expect on Season 10. They pointed out that BAU's technical analyst Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) will be suffering post traumatic stress disorder after the shooting incident in the season finale. It was also said that she might visit the "nurse" who tried to poison Reid.

Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) on the other hand, will also be suffering from the gunshot wound, though he'd be trying to "put up a strong front."

In addition to these updates, Entertainment Weekly said that the show will feature in its 10th season a tribute episode to actor Meshach Taylor, who died after a long battle with colorectal cancer.

The "Designing Women" star first appeared on the long-running CBS drama in Season 8 as Harrison Scott, a homeless Vietnam vet. According to the publication, Joe Mantegna, who has been a friend of the deceased for 40 years, will direct the tribute episode, which will conclude Scott's story.

Executive producer Erica Messer revealed the idea behind the special episode.

"Joe felt he would really like to finish that story that we started," she said. "It's a huge deal for Joe because he and Meshach were friends for over 40 years, but also for Meshach's career because the last acting thing he did was work with one of his best friends."

"Joe really wanted to honor the friendship and Meshach's professional life and bring closure to the story. We're going to do that almost midway through the season. It'll be really touching," Messer added.

"Criminal Minds" Season 10 will premiere on CBS on Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. ET.
