Criminal Minds Season 12 Updates: Actress Paget Brewster Returns for Third Time; Agent Emily Prentiss Returns to BAU To Catch 13 Serial Killers

"Criminal Minds" Season 12 will see the return of Paget Brewster to reprise her role as SSA Emily Prentiss. The announcement was made by EP Erica Messer during the Fan Favorite Panel at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Also making a come-back to the series is Aisha Tyler who will once again play Dr. Tara Lewis.
Brewster is said to appear in multiple episodes in the coming season of the long running crime drama. Her character will help the Behavioral Analysis Unit track down 13 serial killers who escaped.
Executive producer, Erica Messer, said of Brewster's return, "The BAU can use more help this year since they've got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch". Brewster herself confirmed her return to the series via a post in her Twitter account on July 22.

History with Criminal Minds
Since being first seen in "Criminal Minds" Season 2 in 2006, Brewster is actually returning to the series for the third time. She was a regular cast member from Season 2 to Season 7.
In 2014, Brewster was invited back by Messer for the show's 200th episode. Back then, she was quoted to have said that she didn't think twice when she was asked to return for the special episode. She returned yet again for another episode in Season 11.
As of now, CBS is still mum on whether Brewster will be coming back as a series regular. The new season is scheduled to premiere on September 28.
Grandfathered Stint
Prior to her return to "Criminal Minds", Brewster wrapped up her stint in the short-lived FOX comedy "Grandfathered". She played Sara, the single grandmother to Josh Peck's character's daughter. The comedy was cancelled after just one season.
Even if Paget Brewster's return to Criminal Minds is just forsome episodes, it will be a treat to the many loyal fans of the series. Her portrayal of the cool and level headed Agent Prentiss made her a beloved character in the series.
