Portugal's football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made a promise to his fans that he will come back stronger from the knee injury he obtained during the Euro 2016 final. Despite getting injured, the 31-year-old Real Madrid forward is being considered by many sports analysts and fans as the frontrunner of the 2016 FIFA Ballon d'Or.

Ronaldo Promised a Strong Comeback

Ronaldo is currently spending a holiday in Ibiza, Spain with his son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., and other family members. While on vacation, the football superstar posted a short video on his Instagram account updating about his condition and promising that he will come back stronger.

"I wanted to tell them that all is well and that I will come back much stronger. Thank you, long live Portugal!" Ronaldo said on the Instagram video.

It can be recalled that Ronaldo suffered knee ligament damage in a first-half clash with France's Dimitri Payet during the Euro 2016 final. Despite the absence of the three-time Ballon d'Or winner in the later part of the game, Portugal emerged victorious in the championship match, the national team's maiden major title.

Ronaldo Will Not Return Sooner

According to Marca, Ronaldo is currently attending a medical clinic while on holiday in an attempt to accelerate the recovery of his knee injury. After the vacation, the world's highest-paid athlete will be spending another month to fully recover.

If the scheduled recovery period pushes through, Ronaldo would miss the Real Madrid's match against Sevilla at the European Super Cup on Aug. 9. He would also miss the Real Madrid's opening La Liga fixtures against Real Sociedad on Aug. 21 and Celta Vigo on Aug. 28. It is also expected that the football superstar won't be playing during the Portugal's first game for the World Cup 2018 qualifier on Sept. 6.

Will Ronaldo Get Another Ballon d'Or?

After the Euro 2016 final, a lot of sports analysts and fans are already anticipating that Ronaldo will receive this year's prestigious FIFA Ballon d'Or. Some professional footballers also agreed that Ronaldo deserves the honor.

"He is a true leader and he deserves the Ballon d'Or for the great work he has done for Real Madrid and Portugal," Didier Drogba of Montreal Impact said in a report of Goal. He added that although Ronaldo missed a huge part of the game during the Euro 2016 final, he contributed a lot in bringing the team to the finals.

Moreover, Neymar Jr. of Barcelona told a Brazilian media outlet that Ronaldo will most likely win the 2016 Ballon d'Or because of his recent championship trophies. Neymar's teammate, Lionel Messi, was the recipient of last year's Ballon d'Or award.
