'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Season 9 Spoilers: Larry Returns With More Antics Despite Being Given a Death Sentence

The highly anticipated ninth season of the comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" has just landed on HBO this week, and it did not disappoint the fans. Next week, there will be even more entertainment in store for the viewers.

What makes the show appealing to its fans is its ability to find the humor in subject matters that most people would dare to tackle. After the season 9 premiere, the popular comedy series did it again.

The 70-year-old comedian Larry David returned as his television alter ego of the same name in an eventful premiere episode, wherein the series filled the viewers in on what he had been up to for the past six years since season 8 concluded in 2011. It then revealed the biggest challenge he has to face yet — a death sentence.

It can be recalled that in the previous season's finale, Larry and his friend, Leon Black (J.B. Smoove), took their gimmicks to the streets of Paris, which was just actually an excuse for the former to avoid the invitation to a charity event led by actor Michael J. Fox.

Now, when "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 finally made its way to HBO, it was revealed that Larry was actually working on a Broadway musical during the past six years of absence. Inspired by "The Satanic Verses," which was a 1988 novel by Salman Rushdie, and the controversy that surrounded it, Larry, together with manager Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin), came up with a play titled "Fatwa! The Musical!"

However, this was when things started to get complicated for Larry. When he was promoting his musical on an evening talk show, he made an impression of Ayatollah Khomeini, the former Supreme Leader of Iran. Despite his comedic efforts, the Muslim cleric did not like this and issued a death sentence on him.

This resulted to all potential investors of the play backing out, leaving Larry back in Los Angeles, without a play to show and with a death sentence looming over his head.

In "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 episode 2, Larry is going to reach out to a familiar face and will be up for another of his antics, such as giving fake advice to a particular hotel guest and creating a diversion in order to help a nephew of a friend.

It looks like the edict against him is not going to change him at all.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" airs every Sunday night at 10 p.m. EDT on HBO.
