Dallas Cowboys News 2015: Matt Cassel in for injured Romo.

Tony Romo injured his collarbone against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite having a 2-0 start to the new season, the Dallas Cowboys have an early setback after Tony Romo suffered a fractured collarbone.

The star quarterback picked up the injury in a 20-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.

A positive about this is that the Cowboys will have a bye week during Romo's recovery which means that he will only miss seven games and can still help the team in almost half of the regular season.

However, the Cowboys are not trying to coast through the games they will be playing without their top quarterback and they have reportedly acquired another veteran in Matt Cassel from the Buffalo Bills.

With Romo on the injured reserve, it is understood that Cassel will play as a back-up in the role, with Brandon Weeden taking up the starting slot for the meanwhile.

Along with Cassel, the Cowboys will also get Buffalo's seventh round pick in 2017, while the Bills get the rights for Dallas' fifth rounder in the same year.

However, in week 3 when Dallas go up against the Atlanta Falcons, Cassel is said to be the third option, with Kellen Moore overtaking him as the immediate back-up for Weeden.

At 33 years old, Cassel has played back-up for Buffalo's Tyrod Taylor in the first two games of the season.

He was previously cut from the squad but later recalled after the veteran agreed to a massive pay cut.

During the preseason, Cassel only played four possessions, going for 13-15 passes which added up to 83 yards.

His contract is for $2 million but can earn an additional $2.15 million for playing time and playoff incentives.

As for Romo, his availability will be on November 22 when the Cowboys face the Miami Dolphins.

It is also understood that Romo will elect not to have surgery as he recovers from the injury.
