Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks NHL Trade Rumors: Ducks Acquire Patrick Eaves From the Stars

A lot of teams were supposed to be bargain-hunting for a cap-friendly winger before the trade deadline. Well, the Dallas Stars just happen to have a solid player that fits the bill perfectly in Patrick Eaves. Trade rumors surrounding Eaves began to heat up early this week and reports say as many as 10–12 teams were interested in acquiring him.

They all wanted a piece of the winger, but the Anaheim Ducks managed to win the Patrick Eaves sweepstakes by coming up with an attractive offer the Stars just couldn't refuse. In exchange for Eaves, the Ducks are sending a conditional 2017 second-round draft pick to the Stars.

As for the conditions, the pick will become a first-round selection if the Ducks advance to the third round of the playoffs, and Eaves will also have to play in at least half of their playoff games in the first two rounds.

The wait is finally over for Eaves and now he knows where he will be playing the rest of the season.

"Your world gets put upside-down real quick, but I'm excited," he said in a phone interview, according to ESPN. "I'm really excited about it, just because of the way (the Ducks) are playing and the way they're positioned in the playoff hunt. It's exciting, and I think all the nerves and everything that I'm experiencing right now will go away once the games start," he continued.

Eaves is playing the best hockey of his career right now. In 59 games played this season, he has already recorded 37 points, including 21 goals. The number of goals is already a career high and there are still a lot of games to be played.

The acquisition of Eaves improves the Ducks' offensive firepower and they should be ready to fight for a spot in the playoffs. The Blues also got what they want, so it's a win-win for both teams.
