'Dark Souls III' News: Gameplay Will Be Faster-Paced

Despite not having a definite release date, "Dark Souls III" remains among the most-anticipated action-role-playing games these days. The game is a sequel for "Dark Souls II," which was released in December 2012.

According to a report in Tech Times, the upcoming game will introduce gameplay that is faster-paced than the older installments of the game. The game is developed by the same developer that worked on another action-RPG, "Bloodborne," which is the Japan-based From Software. Both games are said to "feature methodical combat and a punishing difficulty" and the way characters progress in the game are the same.

Change is said to come in "Dark Souls III." If in the previous "Dark Souls" games, players were encouraged and rewarded to take their time and use their shields to block attacks, the new game is said to be encouraging the opposite, much like what gameplay was like in "Bloodborne."

An issue of gaming magazine EDGE talked about what these changes will be.

"While the new hero is no Hunter, he certainly seems more agile than before. The backstep in particular has been sped up, and a longsword is swung more quickly too, with no apparent damage penalty," they reported.

Another feature is called the "Ready Stance" which will be "used to set up powerful new moves unique to the type of weapon the player has equipped." With different types of weapons, the stance can be used to launch "new types of attacks."

The game will now be focusing on giving players different combat abilities which go beyond the usual use of the shield and launching counter attacks, which definitely signals a change in the game's pace.

In an earlier IGN report, the new game will feature 100 new weapons and 40 new armor sets that they can use for their characters. It will be released for current generation consoles and PC.
