Upon taking an admirable stand against an oil pipeline in Texas, actress Daryl Hannah has been arrested for protesting on Thursday.

The "Splash" star, along with a 78-year-old landowner, were taken into custody after protesting the northeast Texas pipeline that will bring crude oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

"They've arrested Daryl Hannah and a rural Texas great-grandmother," said Paul Bassis, Hannah's manager, according to the Associated Press.

Hannah and her companion, Eleanor Fairchild, prevented construction of the Keystone XL pipeline by standing in front of heavy equipment in Winnsboro, Texas, which lies 100 miles east of Dallas.

The pair was arrested for criminal trespassing and taken to the Wood County Jail, said Bassis. Hannah was also charged with resisting arrest, according to jail records.

Critics, including the "Kill Bill," star feel that the pipeline would be unsafe because it would be carrying mass amounts of heavy, acidic crude oil that could more easily corrode a metal pipe, which could lead to a spill. It could also have adverse affects on water supplies, some claim.

TransCanada, who owns the $7 billion pipeline that Hannah and others have long opposed, maintains that its pipeline would be the safest ever built and bring the same oil that arrives from Venezuela or parts of California.

"It is unfortunate Ms. Hannah and other out-of-state activists have chosen to break the law by illegally trespassing on private property," said David Dodson, a spokesmen for TransCanada.

Dodson's emailed statement added that the protesters were "putting their own safety and the safety of others at risk," reported AP.

"The streets of Winnsboro will be much safer tonight not that they've gotten that 78-year-old great grandmother off the streets," Bassis sarcastically added.

Hannah shared photos from the construction site with her Twitter followers ahead of her arrest, writing, "KXL is taking people's land and Texans are fighting back!!!!"

She later added, "Drawing a Line In the Tarsands! No KXL!!!!"

Although Bassis said there was "a strong indication" that both Hannah and Fairchild would be kept in jail overnight, the actress' fans and supporters on Twitter are praising her efforts to stop the pipeline.

"Thanks Daryl," wrote Gerard. "We can do this! WE MUST do this!"

Actor Mark Ruffalo posted, "Thank you Daryl and Eleanor! Darryl Hannah Arrested in Texas For Protesting Pipeline."

Bill posted, "Many thanks to Daryl Hannah for joining the Texas blockade."
