'Deadpool' Movie Release Date, Cast News: 6 Actresses on Short List for Female Lead

"Deadpool" is set to begin choosing its female lead as 20th Century Fox has made test deals with six actresses, and one of them will be starring opposite Ryan Reynolds when the film premieres next year.

According to Deadline, Morena Baccarin, Taylor Schilling, Crystal Reed, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Sarah Greene, and Jessica De Rouw are all on the short list for the "Deadpool" movie.

Baccarin played the long-suffering wife of POW-turned-terrorist Brody in Showtime's "Homeland." She also starred on Josh Whedon's short-lived series, "Firefly" and is currently playing Dr. Leslie Thomkins on "Gotham."

Schilling currently stars in Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" as Piper Chapman. She played the female lead opposite Zac Efron in 2012's "The Lucky One" and was in the award winning film "Argo."

Reed is best known for playing Allison Argent, a hunter from MTV's reboot of "Teen Wolf." She was also in 2011's "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and had roles on "CSI" and "Rizzoli & Isles."

Rittenhouse is a regular cast member of the recently canceled "Red Band Society" and was on one episode of "The Affair."

Greene is a theater actress and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress last year for her work on "The Cripple of Inishmaan" opposite Daniel Radcliffe. She plays Judith on The History Chanel's "Vikings."

De Rouw currently plays the role of Huntress on "Arrow." She has previously played Mina to Jonathan Rhys-Meyer's "Dracula" on NBC.

Among the six, Baccarin and Schilling are the most recognizable, and Cinemablend speculates that by bringing in actresses with a lot of TV but little film experience, Fox is able to set a budget range for its female lead.

"Deadpool" is slated for a February 2016 release.
