After months of speculation, former NFL great and baseball star Deion Sanders has confirmed he and his wife Pilar are divorcing.

Sanders, who has thre children with Pilar, recently took to his Facebook page to announce the split. "Pilar and I have decided to end our marriage and move on to the next phase of our individual lives with mutual respect," Sanders wrote in a Facebook post.

"We arrived at this decision prayerfully and carefully in order to be able to pursue what is in both of our best personal interests. Neither Pilar or I will be discussing this any further and thank you in advance for respecting the privacy of our family. Truth," he added.

The pair have been married for approximately 12 years, and appeared to have a solid relationship on the VH1 reality TV show “Football Wives.”

The Texas based couple are said to have a prenuptial agreement in place that grants Pilar a significant portion of Deion's assets, according to TMZ. Deion, who is famous for having successfully played in two major league sports at the same time, is said to be worth millions.

The Sanders' mansion is estimated to be worth $21 million, and according to sources the couple agreed that Deion, 44, would purchase Pilar another home equal to half of its value when they separated.

In September, the internet was abuzz with what critics called damning evidence that Sanders was involved in an extramarital affair.

A screen shot displaying a string of racy text messages supposedly from Sanders hit the web after a 19-year-old girl claimed she had an affair with the married NFL legend.

Another picture showed Sanders allegedly in an intimate position with an identified female.

The divorce is said to be amicable.
