A state delegation attending the National Political Reform Conference in Abuja, Nigeria, has proposed that the constitution be amended so that Islamic Law, known as Sharia, is supreme over provisions in the current constitution.

In the 11-page memorandum submitted to the conference last week, the Kano state delegation proposed that the constitution be amended to say that all laws contradicting Islamic law would be void.
