DeMarcus Cousins Injury Latest News, Rumors: X-Rays on Sprained Ankle Are Negative

When Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins went down with a sprained ankle in Sacramento's 121-117 defeat against the Memphis Grizzlies last Saturday, everyone in the team couldn't help themselves but worry. The heart and soul of the team just couldn't afford to miss games again, especially with the fact that they're struggling right now.

But after undergoing X-rays after the game, the Kings announced that the results were negative and that he is listed as day-to-day. Sigh of relief, indeed.

The injury happened with roughly two minutes remaining in the payoff period when Grizzlies Spanish center Marc Gasol fell into the ankle of Cousins while trying to get hold of a loose ball. Cousins eventually couldn't walk alone and was helped off by the staff to the locker room. Before the incident, he actually was injured in an earlier play in the second quarter. He also limped off in what appeared to be a minor sprain, but he managed to shake it off and return in time for the second half action. He left the game in the fourth after 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The 25-year-old outspoken center is playing one of the best seasons in his young career so far, although the same could not be said about his team. He recently has been selected to participate in the All-Star Game in Toronto, his second. He is averaging a career-best 27.2 points per game and 11.2 rebounds.

This kind of injury scare is something Sacramento cannot afford at this time of the season. They're fighting for a playoff position in the tough and congested Western Conference and with a 20-27 record, which is good for 10th in the conference, they have a lot of winning to do to catch up and grab the eight spot. Sacramento will play the Milwaukee Bucks next in a battle of two teams under .500.
