DeMarcus Cousins Trade News 2017: Sacramento Kings' Early Trade Was Based On Many Reasons

To most, it came as a surprise when the Sacramento Kings traded away their All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans. However, the move was apparently the result of many reasons.

It can be recalled that Cousins, along with Omri Casspi, was traded off by the Sacramento Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans. In exchange, they got Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway. To sweeten the deal, the Kings also received a first-round draft pick and a second-round pick.

The trade was made ahead of the Feb. 23 deadline. And even though it seemed like a peculiar move, Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac thinks it was the right decision because they would have gotten a bad deal if they had waited longer.

"When you make a deal you want to get the most. Right now was the best time, and it was the best offer we had," Divac revealed on Monday, reports ESPN. "Most likely we would get less, because I had a better deal two days ago."

Divac made it clear that he admires Cousins very much, but he ultimately had to think of the Kings' future. The general manager also had nothing but praise for their new player, Hield, describing him as "talented."

"His work ethic is exactly what we want here," Divac revealed in the ESPN report.

But the early trade was not the only surprising thing about the deal. Cousins is not exactly a bad player; in fact, he is an NBA All-Star. However, there are a number of reasons as to why Divac ended up trading him away.

According to Bleacher Report, Cousins is not known for his pleasant personality. Even his own teammates apparently did not like him very much. 19 technical fouls and four disqualifications were also contributing factors that led to the decision.

Regardless, Cousins is still considered a formidable player, with this season earning him the best stats throughout his entire career.
