Dermot Mulroney Scar Explained, Actor Recalls Childhood Fall

Dermot Mulroney, a star on "Crisis," recently explained the origin of his famous lip scar.

The 50-year-old actor is known for roles in films such as "About Schmidt" and "My Best Friend's Wedding," however, Mulroney has never discussed the thin scar above his lip. Although many years have passed since he got the scar, the actor revealed that he remembers the day well.

"It was a long time ago, so I've always had it," he told The Chicago Sun-Times Sunday magazine, Splash. "I was three-and-a-half, and I was carrying a dish for our pet rabbits. And I tripped and it broke, and I fell on it. I definitely remember that day, even though I was three years old."

Unlike other Hollywood actors, Mulroney never masked the scar with makeup. As a result, the distinctive mark helped shape the actor's career.

"I don't think about it or see it, but it's always been there," he said. "It certainly has its place on my face, right below my right nostril. That's where it belongs."

Mulroney is now shooting the NBC dramatic television series "Crisis" in Chicago, but he recalled shooting his most famous film "My Best Friend's Wedding" in which he co-starred with Julia Roberts in the same city.

"One of the most memorable scenes for me is on that tour boat, where Julia [Roberts] and I go up and down the river under the bridges," Mulroney told Splash. "Coming back here to shoot, I'll go by a stairway to an L where I know we shot a scene, or by a nightclub where we filmed. I'm always happening upon these locations that I shot 16, 17 years ago, and I remember them like it was yesterday."

"Crisis" premiered on NBC last week and airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST. The televisions series also stars Gillian Anderson, Rachael Taylor, Lance Gross and Stevie Lynn Jones.
