Deron Williams, 27-year-old Brooklyn Nets player who has been touted as one of the best NBA athletes in his position today, is approaching free agency and reportedly speaking about which teams he is interested in.

In an ESPN report, Williams is referred to as "this summer's number one free agent," who reportedly wants to play for the Brooklyn Nets or Dallas Mavericks when he officially becomes a free agent on July 1.

However, the guard has made it clear that he wants to join a team that will be a contender instead of working on rebuilding next season.

"I want to go to a place where I feel like they will have a chance to build and build fast," Williams told the Los Angeles Times . "I'm not really in the mood for being part of a rebuilding process."

The veteran guard who was drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2005 before being traded to the Nets in 2011, said his priority is to win and find a place where his children will enjoy living.

"I'm getting older. I'm about to be 28. I want to win," Williams told the Times. "I want to win now. Also, I want to live in a place where I want to live and my kids will enjoy living. That's pretty much it."

According to ESPN, the Nets are continuing in their attempt to trade for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard which could help the team's contender hopes as they move from New Jersey into their new Brooklyn arena. However, since Dallas has accomplished their championship goals in the past two years and Williams grew up near the city, some feel the Mavericks may be more of a draw for him.

However, Williams' mother Denise Smith, said the NBA player who is preparing to train for the London Olympics will not keep his fans in suspense for long.

"I think he and his agent have gone over all of the possibilities and I think it (his decision) will be made pretty fast," Smith told ESPNDallas.com. "I think he wants it out of the way, just because I know I'm asked every day, so I know he's asked a million times.
