'Designated Survivor' News: DNC Works to Admonish ABC Show; Will It Affect Season 2 Potential?

"Designated Survivor" will officially return on March 8, but recent news concerning the show's portrayal of the FBI Director has revealed that the Democratic National Committee is taking the necessary steps in order to have the ABC show condemned.

According to Townhall, the DNC had a problem with the way the show "Designated Survivor" depicted a scenario that involved a fictional version of the FBI Director. In the show, the FBI Director admitted to a crime that he had no part in as a result of being blackmailed. The DNC took issue with this and filed a resolution to admonish the series.

"The portrayal of this situation is unbelievable and could result in the undermining of faith in the FBI," says the resolution, which was put forward by DNC superdelegate William Owen. "Director Comey demonstrated in the recent 2016 election that he did not need to be blackmailed to engage in illegal partisan actions."

Voting on the resolution will take place this week, and it remains to be seen how it will affect the potential for a second season, which has yet to be announced.

As for what the rest of "Designated Survivor" season 1 holds, a new face has joined the cast. Rob Morrow, who is known for his work on "Northern Exposure" and "Numb3rs," revealed that he will be appearing as a "cool recurring character" in the back half of the season. Morrow took to his Instagram page last month to share the news, accompanied by a photo of himself on the set of "Designated Survivor."

Another photo sees Morrow posing with Kal Penn, who plays White House Press Secretary Seth Wright on the the show.

"Designated Survivor" follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), the former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as he takes on the role of the President of the United States following an explosion that kills his predecessor and all other Cabinet members.

The series will return on Wednesday, March 8, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
