'Despicable Me 3': Why the Third Film Could Be the Best Installment

Obviously, Illumination Entertainment is not yet done with Gru, his adorable kids and the hilarious yellow minions as "Despicable Me 3" is coming on June. From careful observation, there are reasons to believe that it may potentially be the best in the series.

While the latest trailer has revealed the general plot which everyone already knew before it was even released, it has certainly confirmed elements that could make it great. With new angles and characters combined with the well-loved original cast, it is proving to be a harmonious mixture that could put it on top of its predecessors.

As far as new elements are concerned, the introduction of the 80s-inspired villain Balthazar Bratt is a stroke of genius. While the film is geared toward younger audiences, the retro-styled antagonist helps make the film relatable to movie goers on the other side of the age bracket, bridging the gap and creating a bigger interest in the film.

Another welcome addition is Gru's twin brother, Dru. While Gru has been admired for being brooding and calculating, Dru is illustrated as a bubbly and clumsy character, making them complete opposites. It will be interesting how the two will interact in the big screen.

Of course, the old cast is definitely something that will draw fans of the franchise back in. The scene in which Agnes sells her beloved unicorn to help Gru is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming, leading everyone to think that like the previous films, it will be heavy on the concept of family.

The movie will definitely be not complete without Gru's mumbling minions, who are considered to be the mascots of the series. Despite their incomprehensible speech, their actions are enough to inspire laughter from audiences.

The franchise has been performing well from one film after the other, with the spinoff "Minions" netting the highest worldwide box office earnings, The Numbers has learned. Can the third movie top that? It is too early to say, but there are reasons to think so.

"Despicable Me 3" arrives in cinemas on June 30, 2017.
