'Destiny 2' May Not Be Coming In 2016 After All

Publisher Activision and game developer Bungie have been quiet about the rumored "Destiny 2," the follow-up to the online-only first person shooter game "Destiny." Recent reports, however, including one report in Metro UK, have insiders saying that the sequel will not be arriving in 2016 as originally scheduled. Instead, the game's release date is said to have been pushed to 2017.

According to the report, Activision had earlier made known in November 2014 that work had already started on "Destiny 2." It was also reported by Kotaku that the game was originally set to be released on September 2016. This same report, however, also cited that developer Bungie was not in the best shape to fulfil the demands of the ever-growing community for new content.

An earlier report in International Business Times also cited that Bungie's President Harold Ryan has left the company. The company's board of directors then appointed acting Chief Operating Officer Pete Parsons as the new Chief Executive Officer. With the company keeping quiet about the reason why Ryan left all of a sudden, it does not bode well for Bungie that there is a leadership vacuum at a time when the future of their franchise is unclear.

While Parsons declared his commitment to the development of new content for Bungie, this may be easier said than done. The game's loyal players have long been complaining about the lack of new content, and given that the game already has 25 million registered users, this is too huge a community to ignore.

In the past year, Bungie has tuned in to what the community wanted and even changed up some of the game's DLC to please the community. According to a report in Kotaku, however, this "vacillation" in terms of their plans for new game content may be the main reason the developer is being accused recently of having "lack of communication" with its community.

In the meantime, fans of the game have no choice but to wait for word from Bungie about what content is coming, if at all. This may also include any word about whether "Destiny 2" is ever happening.
