Detroit Lions vs Philadelphia Eagles takes place Sunday as the Lions look to turn around their season, which is fast becoming a disappointment following their success last year. The game starts at 1 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream (details below).
Last season the Lions made the playoffs for the first time since 1999, after posting a record of 10-6. That success had led many Detroit fans to hope that this season could be even better, and there was expectation that the team could build upon what it had achieved last year.
However, the reality has been very different; the Lions currently stand 1-3 and have had a bye week to contemplate where everything has gone wrong so far. Their game against the Eagles has become a must win contest if they are to really make a drive for the playoffs.
Currently the Lions sit last in the NFC North, with the Vikings and Bears being tied at at the top with records of 4-1. The Packers have also experienced problems and are 2-3, although they have been unlucky - especially with the sub-standard officiating in their Seattle game. They are likely to bounce back, and the Lions will also need to start moving up and quickly before it is too late and the season slips further from their grasp.
Despite their poor record the Lions in fact have the second best pass offense in the NFL, averaging an impressive 322 yards per game. They also have the 10th best pass defense, as well as the 13th best run defense. The numbers do not add up to a 1-3 record, and that at least is the glimmer of light to their poor start this season.
One area they must improve if they are to turn things around is in their run offense. They currently have the 24th ranked run offense in the NFL, with a poor 90.3 yards on average per game.
That may be difficult against the Eagles, who boast a strong rush defense, giving up just 97.8 yards per game so far this season.
