'Diablo III' Seasons Mode Launches for Xbox, PS4 on March 31

Blizzard Entertainment turns its attention to the console version of its venerable "Diablo" franchise, announcing a new update that, among other changes, brings the Seasons gameplay to "Diablo III" on the Xbox and the PlayStation 4 (PS4). The first "Diablo III" Season for the consoles is set to begin March 31, Friday, at 8 p.m. EDT.

Blizzard has started a thread in its official "Diablo III" forum with details on the upcoming Seasons for the console versions of the game. The forum post is also intended to be a brief guide for first-time Season players that have the game on their PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.

The March 31 launch of Season 1 for the consoles will take place simultaneously with the opening of Season 10 on the PC, according to a short rundown of the new gameplay feature by VG247. To give a simple explanation of the idea of Seasons, they are basically in-game events that last for a limited time. "Diablo III" Seasons for the PC will typically last for about three months, as explained by Mashable. During this period, players have the chance to play in Season-specific in-game events and earn a rare gear that is only available to Season players. At the same time, every player's character's progress is tracked and a rank given to them in a leaderboard that resets with every new Season.

There are rules specific to Season play as well. Only new characters that will start completely from scratch are eligible to enter the Season once it starts. For gear-sharing purposes, all gold, items, and quest or challenge progress earned by that character are considered Seasonal items, and can only be transferred or shared among other characters that have joined the current season as well.

At the end of the Season, these characters will become non-Seasonal, and all items and progress they have earned will be made available to the other regular, non-Seasonal characters of the player.
