Dick Cheney Throws Support Behind Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham Says No

Donald Trump is the last man standing and the presumptive Republican nominee for the U.S. Presidential elections, after his opponents Ted Cruz and John Kasich announced their exit of the race. His popularity or infamy for most is because of his controversial statements. According to a report in The Atlantic, various political personalities have expressed their views on Trump and shared whether they would back him.

Recently, Republican Party elder and former Vice President Dick Cheney said that he would support Trump. Talking to CNN, he said that he has always supported the nominee. Earlier this month however, during a primary, Cheney said that Trump "sounds like a liberal Democrat" because of his stance on 9/11.

Cheney's announcement of support comes at a time when most of the Republican Party big-wigs have either abstained or have declared that they are not supporting Trump. House Speaker and Republican Paul Ryan said that he is "just not ready" to throw his support behind the presumptive nominee. Other Party elders such as former Presidents George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, former GOP nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney are said to be skipping the Republican Convention this summer.

Another Republican Senator, Lindsey Graham is also not attending the convention. He has also decided not to participate in this year's elections as he cannot vote for either Trump or Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton. According to a report in Time, Graham said this about his non-support for Trump: "I… cannot in good conscience support Donald Trump because I do not believe is a reliable Republican conservative nor has he displayed the judgment and temperament to serve as Commander in Chief."

The Atlantic report offers a more comprehensive list of who has declared support for Trump, who has not and who has abstained. The list includes Party Elders, Senators and Governors, among others.
